Lover Unbound by J.R Ward

Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Summary (from the back cover)

Dr Jane Whitcomb, leader of a cardiac trauma team, is about to leave the medical centre for the night when an emergency is brought in – a man with a gunshot wound to his heart. As she examines him, however, she begins to suspect that her dangerously sexy new patient is not entirely human.

One night, while he’s still in recovery, this tattooed stranger reaches out to her. He seems soothed by her presence. And she is oddly captivated by his.

She will soon learn that he is Vishous – V for short – the smartest vampire in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But his tortured past has left him avoiding intimacy. It is against V’s nature to let anyone see his vulnerable side. Except Jane. He has the oddest sense that she understands…

My Thoughts:
Lover Unbound in the fifth installment in the very popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R Ward. I've loved this series from the start and found Zsadist's story(Lover Revealed) to be my favorite. I wasn't sure if another one would come as close to being my favorite, but this one did.
Each book follows the story of a brother from the BDBH and this one follows Vishous, a complicated, strong male who feels lost. The novels are all set in present day in New York and are mix of vampires, fantasy, romance and monsters.
I'll don't want to give too much spoilers about Jane and V and the plot of the story but I'll give a bit..

Towards the start of the story Vishous meets the Scribe Virgin to gets news he was not ready to face. He is chosen to be the next Primale. Which is to be mated off to the chosen female and reproduce for his race. Vishous do not take this too well and ends up in the hospital where he meets Dr. Jane Whitecomb, the woman who saves his life, literally. He doesn't know why he feels what he does for her, but when he gets a vision with Jane in it, he knows she has to come with him. After a spontaneous kidnapping she is back at the luxurious compound to take care of V's wounds. The only thing is, he'll be better soon and knows her doesn't want her to leave. So now V struggles to balance his destiny against his heart. Jane is his mate, and nothing will take her from him.
Also, Phury is the other brother mention more constantly, which means we'll read his story next.(Which I'm very excited about!) And like the last few books, John is a reoccurring character who is undergoing the transition into full vampire.

This whole series has plenty of steamy scenes and heart wrenching romance, and this book is no different. The emotion is this book is extreme. I love Wards writing, her imagination with the Brothers are amazing. If you haven't read this series yet I defiantly recommend it!
