Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary (from the book jacket)

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires--the ones who never die.

The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them.

After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking hearts.

Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's – inside the Academy’s iron gates, their world is even more fraught with danger. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals and their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...

My thoughts:
I know I'm backwards with my reviews, I've already reviewed newer books in the series but I am behind in my reviews..so, here's my thoughts on the first book in the series!

Richelle Mead's VAMPIRE ACADEMY is my favorite YA series yet. This book got me extremely hooked on the series.I read all four in a day and a half. I cannot wait for SPIRIT BOUND in May 2010. I've heard people comparing this to TWILIGHT and I really don't find it similar. Don't get me wrong, I liked TWILIGHT a lot, it's just not on much of the same level as this series and I find VAMPIRE ACADEMY less predictable that kept me on edge more. I also love the character selection in the Vampire Academy series more.

Rose is a Damphire and bodyguard for her best friend Lisa, who is a Moroi Vampire Princess with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires--the ones who never die. Rose and Lisa have been on the run for 2 years and are now been dragged back at St. Vladimir’s Academy boarding school which is hidden in the deep forests of Montana.
Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking hearts and get in forbidden romances. They left in fear the first time and find out they might not have buried the past as deep as they thought. Lisa and Rose cannot let their guard down and soon find it's not the same as it used to be at St. Vladimir's Academy.

It's a great book, the whole series is both exciting and heart wrenching. Any book written by Richelle Mead is a winner! I'm a continued fan from book one and I'm counting down the days for SPIRIT BOUND.
