Interview & Giveaway with Kimberly Frost

Kimberly Frost is one of my new favorite authors. She really brings a lot to the Paranormal Chick-Lit genre. From page 1, she cracked me up! If your in the mood for a light-paranormal read, don't miss this series!

On to the Q&A:

It's such a beautiful summer.. Have you been having a good summer so far?
I have been having a great summer, but I've had some non-writing work that's kept me pretty occupied, which is why I'm really looking forward to fall. It'll be such a pleasure to dive back into writing!

I'm a huge fan of your books cover art, and recently seen Halfway Hexed's cover art. It's amazing! Are you pleased with it?

Yes, I love the Halfway Hexed cover! All the covers have been really eye-catching and amazing. I'm very lucky to have had a fantastic cover artist for the series.

Of your three Southern Witch Books, which was your favorite to write?

I really loved writing all the books. There are few things in life that I find more fun than writing.

If I had to compare the books, I think the first book, Would-Be Witch, was probably the easiest to actually write because it practically wrote itself and Tammy Jo cracked me up.

Barely Bewitched and Halfway Hexed really allowed Tammy Jo to evolve as a character and for me to develop as a writer. I believe I dug deeper into the characters' emotional depths, and I think that makes for an even more satisfying read. So I loved writing them, too.

I want this series to be as long as possible. Do you know how many books are planned for this series?
We don't have a set number. As long as the audience is growing, I'm sure that Berkley will want to keep going with it. (So thank you for helping to spread the word. The more interest there is in the series, the more books there will be.)

You might have been asked this many times, but do you have anything in common with Tammy Jo's character?
I actually don't have much in common with Tammy Jo in terms of background. All the important parts of her history are very different from my own personal history. She's from a small Southern town, is still involved with her high school sweetheart, is an accomplished pastry chef, never knew her dad, grew up feeling she was lacking (when it came to magic), and had a family ghost. I only wish I had magical powers and a snarky family ghost. :)

The thing Tammy and I have in common is a high level of personal responsibility. If something is wrong, I like to fix it. If someone's in trouble, I want to help them. She's also extremely loyal to the people she loves and that's part of me, too.

Can you tell us how you came up with Bryn Lyons's character? Was it just in your head, or does he resemble a real person you've seen or met before?
Alas, he was just in my head. Wouldn't it be great to know a Bryn in real life? I have known plenty of smart, charming men, so they probably informed my creation of him in some way, but he wasn't consciously based on anyone.

Your a very funny and intelligent writer. Do you have any favorite authors who have have similar writing taste?
Thank you. I love so many writers, it's hard to choose whom to mention. If you're looking for authors who write humorous paranormals, try Kerrelyn Sparks, Katie McAlister, Nina Bangs, Gerry Bartlett, Dakota Cassidy, and Annette Blair. If you'd like to read humorous/cheeky mysteries, I love Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series and Rhys Bowen's "Royal" series.

February 2011, is going to be hectic for you I'm sure, but I just can't wait for Halfway Hexed to be released! I want it now!
I'm so glad! Connecting with readers is the best feeling in the world. I should mention, too, that I'll be putting some free fiction up on my website this winter. If readers are interested in that they should visit my website (http://FrostFiction.com/) and sign up for my newsletter.

I also always like to come to a blog bearing gifts, so for a chance to win autographed copies of the Would-Be Witch and Barely Bewitched, please tell me which of the Southern Witch covers you like best and why.

See you in the comments!

Here's the three covers to choose from:

I love them all! It's super hard to choose, but I suppose I'd choose the original, Would-Be Witch, or Halfway Hexked. I love the dark backgrounds with the pretty colors. But it's super close with all three. :P

Thanks again Kimberly, you rock! Halfway Hexed can't come out fast enough.

Good luck everyone! The Contest will end August 23rd.
Please leave your email along with your comment. If you don't feel comfortable posting your email you can email me it HERE.

I like Would-Be Witch best. I like that the heroine and cat are the focus instead of a busier background.

I like all of the covers, but I think Halfway Hexed is my favorite because there's less emphasis on how sexy the girl is (I mean, she's still sexy, but it's not quite so obvious). I'd love to read these. Sometimes, I'm just in the mood for a good chick-witch-lit story. I'm a follower.

I like the Would Be Witch cover the best, the colors go really well together. Since I really like cats I like the pose that this one is in, he kind of looks like a four legged guard.

His coloring is really neat too! I also really like the forest-like backround and the blue dress goes really well with it! It's a really well put together cover!

I like the first one, Would be Witch. Probably because it has the nice dark background and a wooded scene to it. I'm a sucker for woods, but I am so not an outdoor girl! Go figure. ;) I am a follower too, in case that mattered. :P

I think I like the first cover the best. I like the angle of the girl on the cover, lots of attitude. And the exotic cat being most visible helps too.

I am really liking the covers for this series. I always had a thing for a cartoon style, because models can make a cover kinda iffy for me.

Among all three, I actually think the Halfway Hexed would be the best if 'judging cover by it's book'. It has a nice ambience and mystery sorrounding too! Sorry, am not a follower but would probably soon be if more giveaways appear. :)

Hi! that is a realy interesting question.
i like the cohesiveness of the artistic style of all three, but my favorite is Halfway Hexked. the sweep and flow of the background is contrasted against the stillness of the People (Cats are people too just shorter,.... and a bit more furry)
the contrast of the strong purple against the darknes is not quites as strong as the first cover's read hair, but i feel the more somber darkness draws you in more in the therd cover. the detail in the dark areas is casusing your eye to meyander longer over the hole pictuer. the use of the open window gives a grater feeling of depth and again draws the eye into the cover and holds your attention longer.
this feels like it will be a vary sucsessfull cover. in that it will likely acheve both a cohesive feeling that this book is part of a serries, (alowing perviouse readers to find this new offering easily) as well as atract the new reader by captureing there attention and holding it long enuff for them to decide to pick up the book and have a look. a good cover artist can realy help intraduce a book to its potental audience.
so to recap my vote is for #3.
all for now dislexicly yours jan in ottawa canada

Haha, how awesome!
I think we all secretly wish we had magical powers and/or a snarky ghost we can rely on! lol

But it makes sense that the first book was the easiest to write because it's all about starting a story, setting the background and everything!
Thanks for this interview! :)
