Interview with Jennifer Estep

I was very excited to do my interview with Jennifer. She's an amazing person and a brilliant writer. I love her books and can't wait for what she has in store for her future books. Have you read her Elemental Assassin's series or her Bigtime series yet? Check out her website HERE.
After the interview, don't forget to check out my review of Spider's Bite.

First off, I want to say thank you for participating in our Jennifer Estep Giveaway in June! It was a fun event and a success. And thank you for this interview today!

You’re welcome. Thanks for having me on the blog. ;-)

It's almost halfway into summer now. Have you accomplished what you intended to by now, during this summer?

Not by a long shot! I had so much that I wanted to get done this summer – updating my website, writing some free short stories for readers, working on some new books, reading all the books in my TBR pile, taking some time to relax.

I’ve gotten a few things done, but not nearly as much as I’d like. I need more hours in the day. LOL.

Have you read any great books this past month?

I’ve been on a Lee Child kick recently, so I’ve read several of his Jack Reacher books, including Bad Luck and Trouble, which I thought was really good. I also really enjoyed The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and I’m looking forward to reading the next two books in that trilogy. Right now, I’m reading and enjoying Hardball by Sara Paretsky, which is one of her V.I. Warshawski novels.

I know you probably have been asked this many times, but being the author of The Elemental Assassin series, have you got a favorite Element yourself?

I would have to say Ice, just because I’m so cold all the time! Seriously, my hands are frigid more often than not. In fact, my significant other jokes around and says that I have my own sort of magic – super-cold hands. I’m not sure what they’re really good for though, other than making people wince when they shake hands with me. LOL.

Are there any similarities with your Elemental Assassin series and with your Bigtime series?

Yes and no. The Bigtime books are basically light-hearted comic book spoofs, while the Elemental Assassin books are dark, gritty urban fantasies. But I think that the books have a lot of the same elements in common – strong, sassy heroines, cool magic/world building, and a fictional city for my characters and readers to explore. To me, that’s what Jennifer Estep books are all about – magic and mayhem.

As a writer, which series is more challenging to write?

They’re both equally tough to write. With my Bigtime series, I had to come up with a new couple every time and make them fall in love, but still have certain issues that kept them apart (for a while at least). With the Elemental Assassin books, I’m writing from one character’s point of view all the time, which can be a little limiting.

But with every book that I write, I try to take readers to new places/setting in my worlds and introduce them to new characters, both good and bad. I think that’s the key to keeping a series fresh and interesting.

If you could compare you writing style to another author, who would you choose?

Hmm, this is a toughie! I’d say my writing style is similar to Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. We both write really tough, kick-butt heroines who always get exactly what they want – especially when it comes to the hot guys in their lives. ;-)

Supernatural seems to be the big thing now days, which is your favorite supernatural creature?

I don’t really have a favorite supernatural creature. There are so many authors out there writing so many cool books with so many different kinds of creatures that I couldn’t pick just one. I like reading about all of the different creatures and the various powers that they have and the worlds that they live in. Some of my favorite authors right now are Kresley Cole, Kristin Cashore, Suzanne Collins, Jeaniene Frost … I could go on all day!

Do you watch Supernatural shows? (Such as Supernatural, Eureka, True Blood, etc.)

I love supernatural and fantasy TV shows, books, movies, and more. One of my favorite shows right now is Warehouse 13. I think it’s just a fun show, and it’s interesting to see what kind of artifacts/powers that they have to track down. And of course, I loved shows like Buffy, Angel, and Charmed when they were on.

I also love spy shows, and I’ve been enjoying Burn Notice and Covert Affairs this summer, and I’m looking forward to Chuck in the fall. Can you tell that I watch way too much TV? LOL.

Thank you again for everything! I look forward to Venom on September 28th! I'll be in that line up for sure.

Thanks! I hope you and everyone else enjoys the book. ;-)
