Interview & GIVEAWAY with Adrian Phoenix!

Adrian Bio

Adrian Phoenix and her mascot, The Thing What Squeaks
Adrian Phoenix is the author of The Maker’s Song and Hoodoo series and short stories (the short stuff usually under Adrian Nikolas Phoenix).
She lives in Springfield, OR with three cats– Amiga, Diabla, and Ember. She is the mother of two sons, one living in Springfield, the other in Vancouver, WA.
She loves to read and see movies, enjoys hiking with her grand-dog, Cielo, (immortalized in Black Dust Mambo), and hanging out with friends.
She also loves creepy things and yearns to go on a paranormal investigation. She also hopes to do a haunted tour one day.
She also loves, loves, loves music – and anything by Trent Reznor is highon the list. She also loves to hear from her readers and fans, so please feel free to contact her via the CONTACT link or via the post at PO Box 1468, Springfield, OR 97477.

It's now fall! My favorite time of year. How is this month treating you?

AP: Fall is my favorite time of the year too, with Halloween as my favorite
holiday. So far, the month is treating me well. My birthday is in October, plus my
son and his partner are expecting the arrival of their son (my grandson!) anytime
between now and October 9th.

Do you have any plans for Halloween? Are you dressing up?

AP: I will be in New Orleans for this Halloween, but I don’t think I’ll be dressing up
this year, just enjoying the city (and everyone else who is dressed up).

I'm a huge fan of your Maker's Song series, and you recently released a first
in a new series called, Black Dust Mambo. The protagonist is a Cajun hoodoo
apprentice named Kallie Riviere. Where did you come up with the idea for Kallie?

AP: Thank you so much! I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed The Maker’s Song series.
I came up with Kallie during a workshop I was attending on the Oregon coast
during an exercise on coming up with novel ideas and pitching them quickly. I’ve
always been fascinated by hoodoo and the bayous, so Kallie was born.

Whose character did you have the most fun writing in Black Dust Mambo?

AP: They were all fun to write, but for just sheer comedic fun, that would be
Belladonna and Augustine.

So far, how many books are planned for the Hoodoo series?

AP: I have five books planned, but will be happy to write many more—but that’s
up to my readers and my publisher. Book 2, Black Heart Loa, will be out next
July.

There are currently three books released in the Maker's Song series. How many
more books are planned for the series?

AP: I don’t have a set number of books planned for this series. There are so
many layers to the story and to the world, that I hope to write books in this series
for as long as there is a story to tell. Book 4, Etched in Bone, will be out February

22, 2011, with books 5 and 6 to follow.

Vampires play a big role in your Maker's Song series. Which vampire based
books released this year do you like best ?

AP: Well . . . I’m so busy writing that I tend to be woefully behind in my reading!
I love of all Jeri Smith-Ready’s WVMP series. The 3rd book, Bring on the Night,
was released this year and was great. Another wonderfully dark and sexy series
is D.B. Reynolds’s Vampires in America series with the 3rd book, Rajmund,
released this year. I also love Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series and Jaye
Wells’s Sabina Kane series.

If Inferno could do a concert with just one other band. Who would they play with?

AP: Oh, easy!! It would be NIN (Nine Inch Nails), without a doubt!

Club Hell would be a club I would love to visit and Inferno would be a band I
would love, if only they were real. Where can I buy Club Hell / Inferno Merch?

AP: I do have some Club Hell and Inferno merchandise available, with more to
be designed. I’ll also me designing hoodoo merchandise too. You can find it at:
http://www.zazzle.com/adrian_phoenix

Here's a few Quickies, if you don't mind answering:

Black or White? Black.

Cats or Dogs? Cats. (Though dogs are pretty awesome too.)

Chips or Chocolate? Ooo. Both. Gotta have both!
Music or Movies? Again. Need both!

Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring? Fall.

Vampires or Werewolves? Vampires. Though I have a fondness for werewolves
(which you’ll be seeing in the next Hoodoo book).

Zombies or Witches? Witches. (Less messy and smelly. Hopefully.)

Halloween or Christmas? Halloween!

Tv or Movies? Movies.

Did you enjoy my nosey questions?

AP: Absolutely!! Thanks so much for inviting me, Tasha! I hope you have a
happy and spooky Halloween!

Great answers Adrian!!

Great interview. I already have all your books and they are Awesome. I had to comment on another post here, to enter for the Halloween contest and thought you'd be happy to know I love your books. If I actually get picked here for this contest, I know a slippery fingered friend that would be a very happy camper If I gave her this set for Christmas.
