Current Reading Mood: Urban Fantasy
Quote of the day: “I’d have been dead a long time ago if not for my friends, one of whom had just jumped off the cliff after me.
I’d have been a lot more appreciative if he hadn’t pushed me first." Cassandra Palmer ― Hunt the Moon by Karen Chance

Interview with Terri Garey!

Interview with Terri Garey

About Terri Garey
Southern girl with an overactive imagination, Terri Garey grew up in Florida, always wondering why tropical prints and socks with sandals were considered a fashion statement. She survived the heat by reading in the shade and watching cool shows like the The Twilight Zone and the classic gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. Born too late to be a hippie and too early to be a goth, Terri did the logical thing and became a computer geek.

First off, Fall is now here. How has your fall been so far?
I love Fall, and mine’s been great – just got back from a ten day vacation exploring London, Cambridge, and the English countryside. Now Halloween is on the horizon, and I’m a happy ghoul!

"Dead Girls Are Easy, A Match Made In Hell, Weddings From Hell,
You're The One That I Haunt and Silent Night, Haunted Night are part of an ongoing series about Nicki Styx, a former Goth girl who becomes an unwilling ghoulfriend to the dead." - Where did you get the inspiration for this series, and Nicki's character?
I got the inspiration for Nicki Styx after visiting Little Five Points, in Atlanta, GA which I talk about in more detail HERE.  I’m a Southern girl, and I wanted to write a story set that really showcased what it meant to grow up Southern.  Between the Spanish moss, the old houses, the cookin’ and the laid back manners, there’s a lot more spookiness going on down here than most people think!

I'm a big fan of this series. Are there going to be many more books for the series?

At the moment, Nicki’s busily enjoying her happily-ever-after with Joe, the man of her dreams, while the Devil who’s been plaguing her has stepped up to take center stage.  My next two novels are focused on Sammy (Satan) Divine, the world’s most diabolical bad boy.  Future Nicki Styx novels have not been ruled out.  J

What first drew me to your books was your great cover art. Who is your cover art designer?

Great question, which nobody’s ever asked!  The cover artist for my first two books is a British woman named Mandy Pritty, whose work I love.  She did the original artwork for my first two books, DEAD GIRLS ARE EASY and A MATCH MADE IN HELL.  My publisher made the decision to go with a more urban look for my next two books, YOU’RE THE ONE THAT I HAUNT and SILENT NIGHT, HAUNTED NIGHT (which I also loved), but I really enjoyed the originality and detail of Mandy’s versions.  I think a lot of readers don’t realize how little control authors have over the design of their cover art.

I'm especially excited about your new spin-off series that is based on the bad boy, Sammy (Satan) Divine, from your Nicki Styx series. He's my favorite! Can you tell what to expect from this series?

Basically, Sammy will be raising a lot of Hell.  J

Oh, and he’s hot.  J

"Devil Without A Cause" will be released in June, 2011. Does this series have a set amount of novels? Or are you just going to see what happens?
(I hope it's long, because I know I'm going to love it!)

The Devil’s Bargain series was proposed as a trilogy, because I figured Sammy would need at least three tries to get it right when it came to his own happily-ever-after!  But I’d be happy to write more… if the first three go well, then we’ll see.

Was "Devil Without A Cause" more difficult to write than "Dead Girls Are Easy" as a first novel in a series?

Not more difficult, just different.  DEAD GIRLS ARE EASY was 1st person, female; DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE is 3rd person, male, but I LOVE both characters.  They’re different, and I enjoy writing them both equally.

What's your writing process? Do you do a lot of research, or just write and see where it goes?
LOVE research!  Could easily spend more time on research than I need to, both because it’s fascinating and because it inspires me.  I like to do the creative work setting the scenes in the mornings, and fill in with research after lunch.

Are you currently reading any books?

I read constantly.  I just finished David Sedaris’ book of essays, WHEN YOU ARE ENGULFED IN FLAMES, and Georgette Heyer’s THE CORINTHIAN.  Moving on to BITE ME by Melissa Francis.
Here's a few quickies:

Witches or Demons?

Neither, thank you, although I respect them both equally.

Oh… wait… you mean which would I rather READ about?  Demons.  Definitely demons.  Better yet, the Head Demonic Honcho, better known as Sammy (Satan) Divine, who has his own series out in June 2011, beginning with DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE.  Did I mention that already?  J

Cats or Dogs?

Night or Day?

Umm… depends on the night… or day.

Winter, Fall, Spring or Summer?

Fall.  Always Fall.
Writing or Reading?

Whats your favorite movie?

Toughie.  YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN springs to mind, as does SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but then so do many others.  I like comedies as well as dramas, and prefer psychological thrillers to blatant horror.

Chocolate or Potato Chips?

Potato chips, because it’s easier to stop eating them.  Usually.

Fingers or Toes?

Say what?  Is this like a loaded zombie question or something?

Ok, fingers.  J

Thanks for stopping by Terri!

LOL. Fingers? LOL!

I love the quickie questions. they are so much fun to ask and hear the answer to.

I love the interview because it's very thorough. I've never read the novels. I have heard of them though and have admired the cover art so it's great to learn more!!=)
