Current Reading Mood: Urban Fantasy
Quote of the day: “I’d have been dead a long time ago if not for my friends, one of whom had just jumped off the cliff after me.
I’d have been a lot more appreciative if he hadn’t pushed me first." Cassandra Palmer ― Hunt the Moon by Karen Chance
Welcome Caitlin! I'm super excited to have you stop by!
Thanks, Natasha! It's nice to be visiting.
It's officially Springtime now, do you have and spring traditions you are looking forward to? (or just have to do, like cleaning. lol)
I always enjoy getting my yard in shape after a long winter. Opening my windows for the first time in six months (I live in Massachusetts, so it's not an option in the winter.) And of course, unpacking all my warm-weather outfits!
First we'll talk books.
I'm a fan of all your series, but I'm a sucker for the
Nocturne City novels most. Please tell me you'll be writing them forever? Okay, not possible, but how many books are planned for the Nocturne City series as of now?
As of now, only the five books already written are planned. My publisher and I made a mutual decision to go in other directions, on other projects. But those books will always be close to my heart!
When writing Luna's character, did you have a specific person in mind? Was she portrayed as someone you know or have watched on television, or was she mostly a figment of your imagination?
I mostly just wanted to set her apart from the urban fantasy heroines who were prevalent at the time--they all seemed to be more interested in finding a date than anything, and that's just not the type of character that interests me. I was also trying to write a female, paranormal homage to the great pulp detectives, like Philip Marlowe and Sam Spade.
All your covers are great but your cover for "The Iron Thorn"
is beautiful. Can you tell us who your cover art designer is?
The photo came from a British fashion photographer, and the Random House art department did the background, title font and photoshopping in-house. It was a wonderful collaboration, and I can tell you that the second cover is even better! (But sadly can't show anyone yet.)
If you have to choose a character of yours that best mirrors yourself, which one would you choose? - If any mirror you at all.
I'd have to say none! I don't base characters on myself--that way lies madness!
Now on to yourself..
In a few recent interviews, I've asked this question.
Vlogs are becoming a new and exciting way of interviewing authors. Would you be willing to do a vlog interview in the future, or are you staying away from that type of media?
I did a vlog. One vlog. And then I got distracted and didn't keep up with it. I like being in front of a camera, but it's about 10x as much work as a regular blog post, so I'd really have to start setting aside some time each week or month if I wanted to transition to it.
What is your favorite past time activity? - When your not writing.
Photography is a big one. I love browsing junk shops for cool, weird stuff to put in my old, weird house. I like to read, especially comics, play games on my PS3, or work on DIY projects around the homestead.
What was the most adventures or wacky thing your ever done?
I don't think of myself as wacky, really... I did go to Japan during my sophomore year of college speaking approximately 10 words of Japanese. I've gone all over Europe on my own, but I never look at traveling as a scary thing, only exciting and unexpected. Oh, and I took a burlesque dance class a couple of years ago. That was a blast, and also way outside my comfort zone!
Have you ever received any weird or completely original fan mail?
I've gotten plenty of creepy fanmail, but nothing that really stands out...yet.
Are you currently working on anything?
Let's see...rewrites to the second Iron Codex books. Two proposals, one adult urban fantasy and one a young adult paranormal series. Soon I'll be writing Iron Codex 3!
Thanks so much for stopping by! You rock!
Thanks for having me!
