Interview & Giveaway with Sharon Ashwood!

I'd like to all to welcome Sharon Ashwood to A Great Book Is The Cheapest Vacation!

Spring is here, but summer is quickly creeping up. Do you have any plansthis summer?

The only trip I plan on taking is to the Romance Writers of America conference in New York City.  I’ve never been to New York, so it’s going to be a whole new adventure!  Most of my time off work is spent writing, so I’ll bet that’s where the rest of my holidays will go.

Okay, so ever since I picked up Ravenous back in `09, I HAD to read more. I love Holly's character, but I really got hooked with Alessandro. Where did you get the inspiration for his character?

My characters tend to walk into my head pretty much fully formed.  Alessandro first came to me rather quietly, just leaning up against a brick wall, smoking and waiting. That’s the interesting thing about him as a character—there’s a great deal of patience as well as flamboyance.  Predators know how to hide in order to hunt.

At the same time, there’s a bit of the classic rock star in him.  Physically, I think of a young Roger Daltry.

Of all four of your Dark Forgotten novels, which was easiest to write? Which came most naturally?

They all tend to go through massive revisions along the way.  I tend to have to write the book as I see it, and then change it to fit the publication specs.  I wrote Frostbound the fastest, so it definitely came out the most fluently.

Do you know how many novels are planned for The Dark Forgotten series?

There are four books in the series.

Now, on to your upcoming novel, 'Frostbound', which will be out June 7th. Everyone who follows me knows I'm a sucker for good cover art and I'm happy to say, love this cover. It's rare that I see nice covers that are almost all white. When it's done well, it's beautiful and Ithink this cover is very nice. Anyways, enough babbling on about a cover you already know is awesome. Can you tell us who your cover art designer is?

The artist’s name is Patrick Kang, and he did a spectacular job with all the covers in the series.

Do you ever think you'll write a short story on one of your past characters? Or will you always write new characters stories? I'd love to read more on yournovel couples, especially Holly and Alessandro. *hint hint* ;)

I’m planning a novella that will be released in an ebook anthology. If it’s successful I’d be interested in trying more of this kind of thing. It will have an appearance by one character from Frostbound—kind of a Vin Diesel as vampire character—and I couldn’t resist having him come out and play one more time.

Alright, on to you.. *dun dun DUN!* ..kidding, it won't be that bad...
I see that you like things weird and spooky. Me too. Where was the weird/spookiest place you've ever visited?

The tax office? Actually, many supposedly creepy places don’t bother me, whereas some ordinary places will.  I recall going into an antique store once and getting such a bad feeling I had to leave. Something there didn’t like me!

What's your favorite spooky or horror movie?

I love the Dracula with Gary Oldman.  It’s my favorite version. For sheer silliness, I love Tremors—the survivalists and the giant sand worms. It never fails to crack me up.

All spookiness aside, do you have any upcoming events?

As mentioned above, I’ll be in NYC at the end of June and all over the web in early June, when Frostbound is released.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on several proposals for new projects, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

*crosses fingers*
