Stalking the Others Tour: Interview with Jess Haines!

Spring is here and now Summer's just around the corner. What are your plans for this Summer?
Time for some fun in the sun! Or, ya know, not. I'm a gamer geek, so my skin has two shades: white and lobster. Chances are good I'll be spending most of the summer parked on the couch with the air conditioner blasting, a good movie on the TV, and my laptop showing me shiny stuff on the internet when I'm not working on book-related stuff.

I've got some plans to spend time in New Orleans for the Authors After Dark (link: http://www.authorsafterdark.org/) conference, too. I expect it'll be a blast, as I've had nothing but good times the last two years at AAD. Plus I've never been to New Orleans and I'm very much looking forward to exploring the town!

First off, I've been wondering since I've first picked up Hunted by the Others. Where did the name Shiarra come from?
Many moons ago, I used to roleplay on AOL. (“Gasp!” I hear you say. “The horror! Say it ain't so!”) In the late 90's, I went to the movies and sat down to watch something involving lots of violence. A preview for Blade hit the screen--and I knew I had to have a vampire hunter character of my very own! I would love her and hug her and squeeze her and call her… Shiarra Waynest.

The Shia of today and the Shia of yesteryear are very different in terms of personality. She may be different than her original incarnation, but I kept her name, her kickass belt, and a few other odds and ends...

I've noticed Shia and her crew has twitter accounts. Will they be making any more appearances on there any time soon? -That's awesome by the way-
Ha! Thanks very much! They do pop by now and again, and usually respond (eventually) to any mentions.

If there is enough interest, I could be persuaded to bring the crew out to play for a day…

I like the new turn your covers have taken with Stalking the Others. Do you still have the same designer? Who designed your latest cover?
The first three covers were done by the same artist. I know Kensington hired someone new for the cover of STALKING THE OTHERS, but no one ever told me who did the artwork. It's a mystery for the ages!

For all those who are begging for Stalking the Others, could you give them a little something to hold them over until July? *gives puppy dog eyes*
Ohhh… I suppose. *g* Just a taste!

The noise he made drew the attention of Kimberly, along with most of the other people on the street around us. Her brown eyes, wide with alarm, met mine for a split second--narrowed with recognition and anger--and then she was running. Away from me.

I didn't wait to see if Bo was okay. There was no time or room for second thoughts. With the help of the belt, I was after her, and wouldn't stop until my hands were wet with her blood.

Snarling, I dodged pedestrians and kept my gaze locked on her fleeing back, every step bringing me inches closer to bringing her down.

Distantly--very distantly--I recognized the path she was taking. It would bring us right to Central Park. As a Sunstriker, she had to know that she was as good as dead if she didn't change direction, and soon.

If I didn't kill her, there was no doubt in my mind that the Moonwalkers would as soon as she set foot on their territory.

It only made me more determined to catch her first.

Natasha: Woo! Thanks Jess. I can't wait.

Of all your characters, who comes most natural to write?
While you might think Shiarra is the obvious answer, it's actually Arnold. I love him. He's like the male version of me. Only with magic powers.

You must get this a question often, even still, I have to ask. How many novels are planned for this series?
Right now, I'm contracted through six books, though I've got plots in mind for more in the series. There are also some spinoff ideas I've been kicking around. We'll see what happens once book six is done.

Nosey Time!
Pepsi or Coke? Coke, all the way.

Night or Day? Night. I am so not a day person.

Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall? Winter or Fall. I love the colder months, and all of the holidays that surround them.

Christmas or Halloween? Halloween. My birthday is two days before Christmas, so I get a lot more mileage out of a holiday where I get to dress up and be a pretty, pretty princess for a day.

Beer or Spirit? Neither. For the most part, I'm a teetotaler (though I'll try almost anything once).

Paperback or Audio? Paperback.

Shopping or Beach Day? Depends. Is it… online shopping? *g*

Thanks again so much for having me and being a part of the STALKING THE OTHERS blog tour!

Your welcome Jess! See you soon for you're guest post next month!
