Quote of the day: “I’d have been dead a long time ago if not for my friends, one of whom had just jumped off the cliff after me.
I’d have been a lot more appreciative if he hadn’t pushed me first." Cassandra Palmer ― Hunt the Moon by Karen Chance

Serenity Series Tour: Guest Post/Giveaway with Marissa Farrar *Giveaway updated*

The Allure of the Vampire

In recent years, the popularity of the vampire has gone from strength to strength. Even when people claim that the vampire is ‘over’, shows like ‘True Blood’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries’ only increase in popularity.
My own love affair with the vampire began as a teen. My long-haired, older boyfriend sat me down to watch ‘Interview with the Vampire.’ The moment Louis (Brad Pitt) walked on screen, my heart was lost. Pale, pouty, and full of the angst I was going through at the time, I knew I would never think of vampires in the same way again.
Since then, several other fictional vampires have caught my attention, though perhaps I never quite lost my heart to them in the same way. There was David (Kiefer Sutherland) in ‘The Lost Boys’ who was the ultimate vampire bad boy. No soft center in that one! More recently Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and Eric Northman (Alex Skarsgard) in ‘True Blood’ have had me glued to the small screen (and I’m sure I don’t need to explain my reasons why!).
So what is it about vampires that have so many of us captivated? There is no question that a vampire feeding is an extremely intimate moment. The idea of another creature needing us so badly that they would die without what we could provide them with (blood) perhaps gives us a sense of being needed and desired. A vampire’s strength allows us to submit without being given any other choice, because as much as we women love to be independent, who doesn’t want a beautiful, dangerous, and impossibly strong man declaring his un-dying love? We want to feel as though true love could be forever, and a vampire offers that level of commitment. Let’s face it, when the vampires of our dreams fall in love, they fall hard.
Because I’ve always loved vampires, I knew I wanted to write a vampire story but I didn’t want to write the usual ‘female human gets swept away by handsome, powerful vampire’. I wanted my novel to be about the journey of the main character, Serenity, growing from a place of weakness, emotionally, to one of strength.
As for my vampire, Sebastian, he needs to kill to survive, but he loves Serenity deeply and would sacrifice everything for her. I hear from readers almost every day now and the thing I hear the most is how much people love Sebastian. He’s sexy, a little dangerous, and completely in love with one woman.
The perfect vampire.
Book one in the ‘Serenity’ series, Alone, is now free to download from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple,
