'Twas the Night after Christmas by Sabrina JeffriesSynopsis:
Pierce Waverly, the Earl of Devonmont, has been estranged from his mother for most of his life. When his mother’s new companion, Mrs. Camilla Stuart, writes to tell him that his mother is seriously ill, he goes home. But when he learns that the lovely widow tricked him in order to effect a holiday reconciliation, he refuses to stay—unless she meets his “terms.” Somewhere between trying to seduce the beautiful Camilla and struggling with the cruel memories of his childhood Christmases, Pierce discovers that not only does forgiveness go two ways, but that love can blossom even in the coldest of winters.
Review:
What an enchanting Christmas story! I can't say enough good things about this novel. Sabrina Jeffries is one of my favorite historical romance authors and stories like this one, is the reason why.
She writes a world of characters that we get attached to and cheer on for their happiness. Each novel brings the family together and even through incredibly hard times, they come through in the end.
Pierce was also a fun player in a previous novel from this series, "To Wed a Wild Lord" Where he fake courts his cousin Virginia to test Gabriel's interest and feelings for Virginia. Pierce has come a long way from that hellion. *grins*
I feel that the more hurt and broke the characters seem, the better they live and love in the end. And if anyone was hurt and broke, it was Pierce. I felt his pain while reading along with him. I wanted him to be happy and find the truth so bad.
I also loved Camilla. She's a strong willed, smart, caring woman, who will do anything for the ones she loves. She was the perfect woman and character for this novel. They connected like magnets, even if it seemed a bit touch and go at first. I was very pleased with this match!
Pierce is a new favorite of mine. I think I'll be pinning for his character for a while..
Another thing I loved about this novel was the setting. It was cozy and welcoming. I felt as if I was sitting by the fire on a winter night along side them. A perfect Holiday read.
I you haven't read this series yet, you must! It's a fantastic experience that'll have you laughing, crying and cheering them on. It's one for the shelves!
My rating:
Frigging Amazing! Why did it have to end?!
Sabrina will be stopping by on the 27th! Don't forget to check back then, if not before! :)
