Current Reading Mood: Urban Fantasy
Quote of the day: “I’d have been dead a long time ago if not for my friends, one of whom had just jumped off the cliff after me.
I’d have been a lot more appreciative if he hadn’t pushed me first." Cassandra Palmer ― Hunt the Moon by Karen Chance

2nd Annual Historical Romance Event! Interview & Giveaway with Jenna Petersen *Updated*

Interview with Jenna Petersen

Jenna Petersen knew she wanted to be a writer at a very young age and had a very specific image of what that meant. In her mind, she would live in Los Angeles (why not New York… who knows?), attend book signings, drive a very expensive car and date endlessly (and apparently, unsuccessfully). There was little actual writing involved in the fantasy.

Instead, she got a degree in Psychology from the University of Washington, married her high school sweetheart and moved to Central Illinois. There was much actual writing involved in the reality and she learned a lot in the years she waited to hear she sold a book.

Jenna enjoys travel, history, live baseball, Bears and Eagles football, and of course, all things related to reading and writing. She runs a website for aspiring authors called The Passionate Pen, which has become a popular resource in the romance writing community. She also writes erotic romance  under the pseudonym Jess Michaels.

Welcome Jenna! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks so much for having me!
Can you believe Summer has come and gone already? How did you spend your Summer?
I know, it's crazy that we're already into Fall. This summer I actually took July and August off. I didn't write, just watched the Tour de France, the Olympics, hung out with my hubby, read books and played with my nephews. It was a good rest and left me more ready to work than ever.

Although I love Summer, I love Fall even more. Do you have any Fall/Halloween traditions?
We don't have kids, so Halloween is pretty chill around our house. We'll give out candy and watch scary movies. Unless we get invited to a Halloween party. Then we will rock out.

You write under both Jenna Petersen and Jess Michaels. Do you write historical romance under both? Do you write in any other genres?
I write historical romance as Jenna Petersen and erotic historical romance as Jess Michaels, both of the names I write books set in the Regency period. As Jesse Petersen I write urban fantasy, specifically zombie and monster books with a humorous twist.

Which of your novels are you most proud of?
Oh gosh, I'm proud of all my books. I have never written a book I didn't love or put my entire heart and soul into.

FOR DESIRE ALONE will be released in November. Can you tell us a little about what to expect from it?
Well, yet again my heroine will call on Vivien Manning, the notorious Mistress Matchmaker, to find her a protector. Only this time she isn't an innocent. Mariah Desmond has already been a mistress for years, but her dearly departed protected left her nothing after his dead. Desperate, she ends up entering into an affair with an old friend, John Rycroft, who has always desired her. Though they both claim it can never last, their desire blossoms to something more. But his abusive, controlling father may bring an end to everything... including Mariah's life.

If you could co-write with another historical romance author, who would you choose?
Hmmm, I can't imagine co-writing with anyone, but I've occasionally been compared to Lisa Kleypas, so maybe our styles would mesh well.

What are you working on right now?
Right now I'm working on a few projects for my urban fantasy alter ego and in the New Year I'll start two new erotic historical romances to be released after the Mistress Matchmaker series is over. After that... who knows? :)

Pepsi or Coke? Coke. I don't even understand why they have Pepsi.
Cats or Dogs? Cats. I like dogs, too, but I'm a cat girl. (Me too!)

Swimming or Tanning?
Swimming. I'm very fair, so I don't tan.

Favorite alcohol beverage?
I don't drink actually. I have nothing against it, I just don't. I will take a Diet Coke any day.

Time Travel: Past or Future?
Past, since I write in the regency period. It would be cool to travel back to research purposes. Though with my luck I'd step on a butterfly and come back to the present to find Hitler had won WW2 or something awful.

Favorite color?
Blue, though I am also quite fond of purple.

Favorite tv show?
I have a lot of those. I like Fringe a lot. And we watch How I Met Your Mother (though I think it's jumping the shark a little now). I'm also a fan of reality shows like Chopped and Cupcake Wars.

Favorite movie you can always re-watch?
Pride and Prejudice, but the real one. With Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Thanks for stopping by! You rock!

Great interview!

Very excited for the next installment in the Mistress Matchmaker series! (The premise sounds very interesting!)

I love Jennifer Ehle! I loved her as Christabel, the poet, in Possession. ^_^

Jenna, I am so with you on the original BBC Pride and Prejudice. Colin Firth makes the best Mr. Darcy and how about the lake scene... over and over and over!!!

The book sounds really good, can't wait to get a copy. I also watch food network and drive my husband crazy, although he is starting to quote Florian from cupcake wars. Lol
