I’d have been a lot more appreciative if he hadn’t pushed me first." Cassandra Palmer ― Hunt the Moon by Karen Chance

Halloween Week! Interview with Christina Henry

About this author

Christina Henry is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago and enjoys running long distances, reading anything she can get her hands on and watching movies with samurai, zombies and/or subtitles in her spare time. She lives in Chicago with her husband and son.

Welcome Christina! Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks so much for having me, Natasha!

I love Fall. The smells, the leaves and the Holidays. Are you having a good Autumn?

Yes! My family and I have been doing a pumpkin patch tour of Northern Illinois :) I'm trying to eat as many apple cider doughnuts as I can before November.

Do you have any plans for Halloween? Dressing up, maybe?

We always take our son (who is now 6) trick-or-treating and then we watch Disney's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" cartoon. My dad always watched it with me when I was a kid so we're continuing the tradition.

Do you have a favorite Halloween movie that you watch every year?

I have lots of favorites - John Carpenter's "Halloween",  Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" , Tobe Hooper's "Poltergeist", Ridley Scott's "Alien", George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". I love scary movies, especially anything that involves monsters eating people up. I try to watch as many of them as I can in the week leading up to Halloween.

Book talk time!
I absolutely love your Black Wings novels. I'm hooked! Do you know how many are planned for the series? Please say many more!

There are a total of nine books planned for the series. I am currently in the process of finishing up book #6, and book #4, BLACK LAMENT, will be released October 30th.

If you could describe Maddy in three words, which three would you choose?

Stubborn, brave, emotional.

If you could describe the Black Wings series in three words, which three would you choose? Super hard one, sorry. I'd just love to know!

Darkness, deception, and death.

Could you give us a teaser or a favorite quote from BLACK LAMENT? Pwease?

Some of my favorite lines come from Beezle, Maddy's food-obsessed gargoyle. This is a little snippet of Maddy and Beezle's interaction:

Beezle was on the kitchen counter with his beak in a gigantic sack of Kettle chips. His bottom half stuck out of the bag as he burrowed through like an earthworm. Rapid crunching sounds emitted from inside.

I grabbed him by the ankle and yanked him out. Chips skidded all over the counter. He looked guilty for a second, then covered it with defiance.

“What? Nobody else wanted them,” he said.

“I might have wanted some,” I said. “I see you were not even remotely worried about me. Where is everyone?”

“Jude had to meet with Wade about some pack thingy. He called and said he would be back soon. Nathaniel is downstairs sulking, as usual. Or maybe he’s plotting. It’s hard to tell the difference. Samiel is playing Skyrim on the computer.”

“Do I want to know what Skyrim is?”

“Probably not,” Beezle said, dusting chips off his face.

“I need to eat something,” I said as my stomach growled.

“We should get Potbelly sandwiches,” Beezle said hopefully.

“No,” I said. The closest Potbelly was right across the street from the place where Jayne Wiskowski had lost her head. I didn’t need to be reminded of that debacle while I was eating.

“Can we go to Costco and get a hot dog, then?”

“You just ate. I’m the one who needs to eat something.”

“Those chips are mostly air,” Beezle said. “I need something substantial.”

A hot dog did sound good. And there was a bookstore on Webster, near Costco. I could stop and get a copy of What to Expect When You’re Expecting a Demon Baby.

You can also read the full first chapter of the book here: http://www.christinahenry.net/?p=663

You always have great novel covers! Who's your cover designer?

Kris Keller. I think he does a really beautiful job. I feel like I was blessed by the cover fairy!

Are you currently working on anything?

I have been pretty involved with the BLACK WINGS series over the last couple of years, but I am hoping to work on a new series this winter. Don't worry, there will still be more Maddy books forthcoming!

Randoms:
Pepsi or Coke?

I am a lame-o who doesn't drink soda. Anyone for a green tea?
-I wish I didn't Christina. It's addictive and so bad for you...

Favorite Halloween Movie?

It's hard for me to pick just one, but I'm going to say "Sleepy Hollow".

Favorite Supernatural being?

Werewolves.

Sam or Dean?

Again, I demonstrate my lameness by admitting that I have no idea who Sam and Dean are.
-It's okay. But you really should check out Supernatural! It's an awesome tv series, I think you'd enjoy!

Favorite Alcoholic beverage?

Red wine.

Thank you so much for having me here!

She planning to make a giveaway of her wares? I think they'd go well with personalized bags designed with her characters.
